The stark naked painter … and his Japanese models as well!

This provocative title has its reasons. For me, nude and nudity are as far apart as the lie of love, or the art of truth.Nudity is characterized by deprivation, lack and fragility. Yet the nudes that are inevitably thought of in the artistic representation of nudity do not cover this definition. We do not see the emergence of this state of simplicity, humility and stripping that is that of the laying bare. The bodies presented without clothes do not seem fragile, on the contrary. It seems to me essential to differentiate such representations and the real, daily nudity of bodies. It should be noted in passing that if the French language uses a single word to designate the naked body, it is not the case with English that distinguishes between the naked body, “nude”, which is a certain ease between trust and chastity, and the naked or naked body, “naked” or stark naked, exposed and vulnerable, whose nudity is embarrassing because it is sexual. It is in the sense of ‘stark naked’ that I have sought to represent the real nudity considered a priori indecent whereas it is first of all a simple fact of nature that does not suppose any distinction between man and animal. For a very long time, no doubt, man has never ceased to seek to oust this animal, natural part that is in him. Now, if the human has acquired little by little a thought, it is always in a body that remains almost identical to that of its oldest “ancestors”. This is precisely what I seek today to represent in my images beyond art: this simple, animal state, with all the details of its sex, to return its true nature and animality to our “desexualized” and “denatured” bodies.
